Automation

Automation removes effort. Improvement removes the reason for it.

Most automation programmes stop one question short.

Automation is easy to justify and easy to over-buy. A use case is found, effort is removed, a benefit is booked. Repeat forty times and you have a portfolio of accelerated workarounds.

The step that separates automation from operational improvement is asking why the work exists. Often it exists because a system upstream cannot be trusted, or because two teams disagree about ownership.

Enterprise capability arrives when automation is treated as a platform decision with governance, reuse and lifecycle ownership — not as a series of local wins.
