Field Note · Transformation Operating Model
The New System Is Not the Transformation
A new system going live does not prove the enterprise has transformed.
A new system goes live.
The programme is declared successful.
But ask a different question:
What stopped?
Did the old process stop?
Did the old system stop?
Did the old responsibility stop?
Did the old report stop?
Did the old workaround stop?
Did people actually change how they work?
If the answer is no, the organisation has added capability.
It has not necessarily transformed.
Transformation requires subtraction too.
The executive question:
What are we still operating because nobody has made the decision to stop?
