BUSINESS CHALLENGE: Luxottica, a Fortune 50 global eyewear leader, faced the challenge of modernizing its legacy infrastructure and applications to meet the demands of its expansive retail and lab network. With operations spanning the globe, Luxottica needed to ensure 24x7 availability for its 1,200 business-critical applications while adhering to strict international compliance standards, including GDPR, HIPAA, and PCI.
SOLUTION IMPLEMENTATION: As the Technology Transformation Lead, I spearheaded a 30-member team to transition Luxottica's infrastructure and applications to a Hybrid Cloud environment within a €150M contract. Over 15 months, we developed and executed a comprehensive application assessment and migration strategy, seamlessly moving 3,700+ resources across 185 resource groups to Microsoft Azure. This included virtual machines and Azure-managed database instances. Our approach ensured total compliance with all relevant standards and was completed six months ahead of schedule.

OUTCOMES DELIVERED: The migration resulted in a 45% reduction in Luxottica's data center footprint and an 80% decrease in CAPEX, saving €4M. Recovery times were improved by 276, greatly enhancing Luxottica's threat response capabilities. Additionally, the project boosted profit margins by €1M and reduced labor costs by 12% over three years while maintaining uninterrupted business operations.
